Whitley Strieber Conspiracy theories

Postby siren13 » Thu Jun 09, 2011 6:41 am

I have always loved Strieber's books. But then yesterday just so happened that I came across an artical that stated it was all lies and that he just fabricated the stories to make money off of the subject matter. That he is part of the "disinformation propaganda." Now granted I don't believe everything I read about him that he is not telling the truth. The fact remains I did notice that his later books seemed to go with what ever new information came across about abductions - he then seemed to have the same experiences. Just makes me think.. Wondering what you all thought about it. Again I like Mr. Strieber. I enjoy his books. Even if they are all hogwash I still say GREAT STORY TELLING!!! Still there are some things also made mention about it on different forums.

AGain I wonder sounds like accusations from a crack pot. I don't enjoy passing on the information because I think some of what was posted on the other forum could be dubbed as slander against Mr. Strieber. The individual states that he believes Mr. Strieber had something to do with the death of John Mack. I don't believe that to be possible. But I did find this link from UFO Skeptics website.. again could be true, then again could be lies to get the skeptics all worked up.
So I chose to take this all in with a grain of salt. I have emailed Whitley before and received a prompt response and he was very polite not weird at all. So just curious as to anyone's thoughts.

He seems to me to be someone who possibly has experienced an alien abduction himself and who has attempted to clarify his experiences not only to himself but to others through the writing process. However, once he begins including experiences (true or not) that are not his own in order to amp up the sellability of his books he has entered into the field of fiction rather than non-fiction. Thus, I believe his wrtings should be considered science fiction novels instead of self-biographical accounts, and to present himself any other way seems misleading and very unethical to me.

I agree to a point. I believe something happened to him just as to what extent his experiences were EXACTLY what he claimed. And when you read his novels they are not that sensational. I did not find Communion to be very sensational. A lot of it was vague in some areas. His other books were more along the sensational line. But he also has went from disliking his "abductors" to liking them. I know from his website Unknown Country he talks about not having any experiences lately. I am not sure it that is because he had his "chip" removed some 10 odd years ago. I believe it was done on tv. I remember the program just not the name of it. In any case it was interesting to me reading some information from the other side. While I find alien abduction plausible, I even believe that people have experienced something but not in entirely in the large numbers you hear people saying. I think a lot of people want to be part of something and feel special but the people that have had these experiences want to forget they ever happened. They feel genuinely victimized in some way when you read some of the material out there. Which to me would make sense if someone kidnapped you from your bed to do all sorts of things to you. It is interesting to debate his works.

ha ha true.

I think unfortunately that is why it is hard to believe anyone that has had genuine experiences with the paranormal. There are so many people willing to lie to make a buck. It takes away the thrill out of anything that IS true. Makes it hard to tell the difference between really good storytelling and true claims.

I am in the boat with the debunkers on this one. I do think Mr Strieber has made this up and may actually believe it now. There are many ufologists who also believe this to be the case also. Mr Strieber has made a boat load of cash off those books on this subject, so why would he stop a cash cow? I view them as fictional entertainment. If people actually believe them, no harm done either.

His best book is The Wolfen which was also made into an excellent movie.
