The Philadelphia Experiment

Postby lunarwing » Fri Dec 24, 2010 5:37 am

One of my favorite books I read when I was young was titled "Thin Air". I think it was about '69 or '70. It was a novel about a Cdr Hammond who was NCIS (Navel Criminal Investigative Service), he was investigating a murder which led him "down the rabbit hole". He found himself smack dab in the middle of a top secret program that had happened years eariler... one that very powerful people did not want to be reveiled.

This "fictional" novel had every detail that eventually emerged later known as The Philadelphia Experiment.

Now I find this very strange.... in all the coverage that this mysterious experiment has garnered over the years.... I have never seen a mention of this novel.

I think that the auther used a common tool to tell a fantastic truth. Sometimes when a story must be told and it is too dangerous to tell by means of a non-fiction book.... authors will publish the story as fiction.

In this story.... there was more to it then the fantastic experiment that some of us are aware of. Although the initial outcome to make a navel vessal invisible to radar was achieved... the side effect of transporting matter from one place to another was something the private defense company was using and would do anything to keep it a secret.... even murder.

Has anyone else ever seen this very rare novel? I would really like to find it again.

It sounds like a rare book that someone read and could of started the Philadelphia Experiment rumors on. I am one who does not think the Philadelphia Experiment was real (or if it was, it did not have to do with time traveling).

I do know they wanted to make ships "invisible" to radar, but not physically invisible by themselves. One of the main problems with conspiracy theories is any wild story, urban legend or even book of fiction gets turned into the real deal with the flimsiest of evidence.

I will try to look for the novel when I go to the libraries and used book stores.

That's not the same book(s)... the one I am looking for is a story about the US navy experimenting on the US Eldridge. According to the story Eistein and Tesla were involved with the experiement. If you know the Philidelphia Experiment story.... you will see that "story" in the books description.

Thanks anyway. If anyone ever runs across this paperback that was around in 1969 to 1971.... PM me a link and I buy it.

That is what has bugged me for years..... I had read that prior to all the stories I read about the experiment later on through the years. Could that book have been the root story to the stories that came much later?

Or could it have been a person who was on the inside... telling a story of a actual event in the guise of a fiction novel?

Maybe it was the government itself that put a piece of disinformation in the stream of history?

I'm a romantic on this one.... if it is proved one thing or another..... I still would like to think Eistein and Tesla created a frequency powerful enough transfer a ship to another shipyard. :)

I would guess the book is a work of science fiction. Many books out there have obscure subject matter that are not very popular.

There was a special on the Philadelphia Experiment on the History Channel that proved the incident is very unlikely to have happened. It was very interesting and I will post the link here when I find the title out.

The book Thin Air, as well as some of the later versions of the story tells that they removed one of two of the massive engines.... and mounted in it's place the biggest generator any one ever saw. A web of very thick electrical cable was drapped all over the ship.

They supposedly produced a massive high powered frequency that had unexpected results.

I just want to find this old paperback that I read that predated any Philidelphia Experiment story from 1969 and after.

Please... anyone finding the Thin Air book... let me know!

Lunarwing:
If I can locate one I will post or contact you.
With Einstein and Tesla working on the "Project Rainbow" that gives it a higher level of legitimacy, about the book. It is wise to write about a subject in fiction.
Russian writers have had to do this for years.
If I am not mistaken Dr. Jessup was killed for the knowledge he held about the "Project Rainbow".

Max found it for me... but when you read the reviews... there seems to be something going on behind the scenes.

Every regular person who wrote a review highly praises the book. But there seems to be some confusion about two different Thin Air's that were writen... and the authors are... one who I am assuming is one of the reviewers... is trying to set the record straight.

He does say the book Thin Air came out before any of the movies... or other books that came later about the subject.

Something strange is going on here....

With all due respect to policies on posting, you can find Thin Air by George E. Simpson and Neal R. Burger in that online bookstore founded by Jeff Bezos.
