What are you reading right now?

Postby goldenstar » Mon Feb 14, 2011 7:20 am

Since I discovered the wonderful reading of AA and Ancient Civilizations, it's really hard to want to read about anything else! But from time to time, I do take time out to read other things, such as fiction. Right now I am reading Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry. I never watched the movie or series on TV and it sounded really good and it is! I'm not quite halfway through and am very pleased with it. Currently I'm on a cattle drive to Montana in the late 1800s with a host of very interesting characters. The characters in this book are so well defined. Can't wait to resume the trail!

I love all kinds of books, but do not really get into romance novels. However, I don't mind the romance of course, if it is surrounded by other really good subject matter. In other words, I don't buy a book based on romance alone. I love mysteries, biographies, fiction, nonfiction, and just about anything....classics.....on and on...

Then when I'm done with it, I have a nice book called Lost Technologies of Ancient Egypt by Christopher Dunn I want to read. So it's back to some real Egypt!!

I'm an avid reader and have a Kindle e-reader. But sometimes when a copy is not available on Kindle, I buy the real book.

So, what are you reading? :)

Right now I'm reading something political but really interesting so I thought I would pass on...The Last Circle: Danny Casolaro's Investigation into the Octopus and the PROMIS Software Scandal by Cheri Seymour.

It's really broad, but here's a synopsis from no-corporate-stores-here!
Probing one of most organized and complex criminal enterprises in the United States, this report exposes the dynamics of the Octopus, a globe-trotting undercover intelligence operative. Based on 18 years of investigative research, this account reveals high-level, covert government operations and the elaborate corporate structures and the theft of high-tech software (PROMIS) used as smoke-and-mirror covers for narcotics trafficking, money laundering, arms sales, and espionage. The Octopus connections to a maze of politicians and officials in the National Security Council, the CIA, the FBI, and the U.S. Department of Justice are revealed. A detailed look into the recent high-profile arrest of Mafia hit-man Jimmy Hughes is also included in this intriguing analysis.

"The Mammoth Book of UFOs" is next for me to read. I also want to reread a few others soon, but I am resting my eyes for now.

I'm in between books right now, so I'm reading 'Legendary Times' and 'Ancient American' magazines. I haven't decided on the next book yet.

Has anyone tried or owned an Ebook Reader and which brand it was? I'm thinking about buying one so I can have easy access to all the sci-fi books. Our bookstore went out of business a few years ago and wal-mart, k-mart don't sell hardly anything.

I have a Barnes and Noble Nook. It is without a doubt the best tech related purchase I have made in the past year.

Those ebook readers really look interesting, lately I have thought of getting one. They just seem a bit excessive at first but the price of an ebook vs a paper one is drastic. I am leaning towards one really hard.

I've had a Kindle e-reader for over a year now and LOVE it!! I do 95 percent of my reading on it. It would be 100 percent but there are a few books not on Kindle, not much. It is so convenient. It will hold about 1500 books. Easy to buy, and lots of classic books are free. One of the best purchases I've ever made. And I do a lot of reading!

I have a Nook color, which is awesome. I previously had a Pandigital Novel which would have been even better if the wifi didn't suck on it. Also anyone with a smartphone you can download e-reader apps and read on your phone. Android phones have Kindle for Android, and if you search around on the net you can find e-book to Kindle conversion so you can read any e-book in the Kindle for Android app. I know the print is small on your phone but it's free!

Yeah, they came out about 2 months after I bought my Nook. I am still thinking about getting one because they are pretty easy to root into an android honeycomb OS. Basically gives you a decent tablet for for very little money.

Thank you everyone for replying. I really like the look of the Nook Color, its a little more expensive than the Kindle, but it sounds like its worth it.

Though we share it, the Nook Color was a christmas gift to my girlfriend, and though i keep insisting to her that it will be improved once i change to Android honeycomb OS she's insisting i'm going to mess it up and turn it into a paper weight! Maybe i'll just do it while she's sleeping.

I don't think I would ever get an ebook. I am too old fashioned and like to have the real thing in my hand when I am reading.

Just started Lost Technologies of Ancient Egypt by Christopher Dunn, thanks Goldenstar for mentioning it.

I had a Kindle, but gave it away. I like having my nose in a real book.

Sigh...text books, but I am dying to read Chariots now that I have a copy. I am also following a manga about samurai and am halfway through re-reading the Lord of the Rings for the seventh time. We are actually discussing The Hobbit in one of my classes so its very engaging and fun
