NFL Playoffs

Postby Vance » Mon Jan 09, 2012 9:06 pm

OK so I know this forum isn't the hub of sports activity, but there's gotta be some football fans out there!

My Texans trashed the Bengals but the Ravens scare the bajeezus out of me. If we can get past them, we can get past anybody.

So anyone else have teams in the playoffs?

Hey Vance87. According to the post season interviews with the players, we have the BEST TEAM in the NFL that didn't make the playoffs. Go, Eagles, Go! ... ROFL
... Peace.

I'm a Bronco fan and no, not becasue of Teebow, I used to live in Denver as a kid, since BE (before Elway) but hey, whatever is happening with Teebow, I'll take it :).

We upset the Steelers!

In overtime!!

An 8-8 team VS a 12-4 team!!!

Ah, the glory days, now back to business:

The next opponent for them is the Pats and they are looking tough. The Pats had no problem with the Broncos a couple of weeks ago, so I am on pins and needles with this upcoming game.

The Broncos do have a tough dee (not as good as the Texans), but the Pats are a scoring machine, especially in the second half. In terms of points, no one in the AFC comes even close (the whole league for that matter). No way the Broncos are going to have even odds in this game, it is going to be an uphill battle all the way (we'll find out if faith can move mountains ).

The Texans/Ravens match-up looks good, but the Texans have their work cut out for them too.

My brain says this whole thing is going to boil down to the Pats vs the Packers, but my heart says the Broncos vs the Saints.

(I had a tough college season, my Fighting Irish blew a 14-point lead in the 4th quarter to lose a bowl game, and I predicted LSU would win last night...so I am really hoping against hope that the Broncos can do the impossible...sigh.)

I don't think it's gonna be as easy to prepare for Tebow this time around, he's shown he can 'pull the trigger' and he made the Steelers' secondary look downright ugly at times. If Tebow can keep improving pass wise, that's what's gonna make him a headache, not knowing whether or not he's gonna hand it off, pass downfield, or just run it himself. The Steelers dared him to throw and he did, and it hurt them big.

Everyone is giving the odds to the Ravens to beat the Texans, which I can see, they are 8-0 at home this year. But stats wise we match up closer to them than alot of people realize...points per game, points allowed, rushing defense, passing defense, the Texans and Ravens are listed near each other in all of those categories.

It's gonna be the toughest game we play all year...but I'd love to see a Broncos/Texans AFC Championship :D

Its gonna be a dogfight in Baltimore for sure. Two tough defenses, and both hard core football teams. It looks to be the best matchup so far and yeah, I too think the oddmakers are overlooking the Texans a bit. The 49ers defense did give the Ravens pause (even though the Ravens ultimately won), but no way is victory a forgone conclusion with this game, for either team. Playoff football -- this thing is up for grabs.

Re Teebow, yeah, they did open up the playbook a little and I think you are right. Setting up to stop a running QB means less resources for pass defense, but the Bronco coaches are gonna have too open up even more and Teebow is gonna have to execute. I'd bet that is what they are going to do, but how to stop Brady(?). We gotta keep him off the field and we are going to need some turnovers for sure (tall orders).

Go Pats! Having grown up in Massaschusetts, I had many tough years as both a Sox and Pats fan...but things have turned around, to say the least.

The Broncos scare me simply because they have an unorthodox approach on offense and the weak Patriots defense could be exploited. It didn't necessarily work in the first game, but the second time around could be a charm for Denver. I also worry about the revenge theme some teams can muster as well. The thing the Patriots have going for them in the intangible category is the fact they have lost at home in their first playoff game the last two years...I can't see that happening again.

One other thing, these two quarterbacks have to be the two most hated in the NFL (amongst non-homer fans). I personally think both are winners and don't deserve the knocks they get; although Tebow could really use some work on his accuracy.

Vance, I don't see how the Ravens will lose against the Texans. Their D is fierce and I am not sure Houston will be firing all cylanders due to injuries. I am rooting for them and I guess it's possible the Ravens could overlook the Texans...I actually hate the Ravens, I think they are a bunch of thugs and they definitely scare me going against the Pats.

I'm hoping for Pats v Saints, but I'm not sure if either will get by the Ravens and Packers.

Our D is actually statistically just as good, if not a tad better, than theirs. Plus, we have a younger more athletic group of guys, even though their side has all the experience.

We weren't doing so hot the last 3 games of the season but we put all the pieces together when we played Cincy. Passing, running and D were all there. If we do that against the Ravens we have a great shot...but it's gonna be tough. 8-0 at home is a rough stat.

We may not be as ghetto as Baltimore...but we have the rawest white boys in the league. :D

Sorry Bronco and Texan fans. I was rooting for the Texans, but can't say I was disappointed with the outcome with the Patriots. One of the commentators said Brady probably had some pent up emotion with all the Tebow talk all week...he is a 3-time SB champ and 2-time MVP afterall...and favorite to win the game (which he did)...Brady had some performance.

BTW, I was wrong about the apparent popularity of Tebow...my assumption was that he was hated due to all the commentary I hear on the call in shows during the week, plus all the NFL pundits telling us how "weak" his game play is. But in a recent ESPN poll, he ranked as the most popular player in the league amongst fans. Pretty amazing. It will be interesting to see what the Broncos do with him next year, before the playoffs began, some predicted he would see his last game in a Bronco uniform against the Steelers.

Giants v Patriots Super Bowl Rematch anyone?

My Broncos got spanked. The Pats were just unstoppable. Hats off to Brady and company (congrats to you Fox).

Yeah, Teebow is a classy guy and I hope to see him next year, but he is going to have to earn his way, that is for sure.

The Texans gave it a good shot and almost pulled it off (they seemed to stay close to the Ravens), but just could not quite do it.

Old school says that championships are won by defenses and have you noticed that the Ravens and the 49ers have both made it to their respective championships?

Of the top regular season offenses (Saints, Pats, Lions, and Packers), only the Pats remain, and of the top defenses (Steelers, Texans, Ravens, and 49ers), both the Ravens and 49ers are still in it.

Old school rules are looking relevant and valid, so maybe we are in for a Ravens vs 49ers SB. I am now rooting for the 49ers, as they are only an hour north of my home, although by doing so it may be the kiss of death for them :).

I say Tom Terrific over the Ravens, and the edge to NY because Eli is just on fire right now. Both NFC teams have good defenses so QB is the x-factor for me.

I'll go with the Brady Bunch to go on to and win the SB. ... My money is on the scores at the end of the 1st quarter, half, 3rd quarter, and end of the game, if you know what I mean.
It makes the game more exciting for Wifey and me to watch.

Sometimes it's better to be more lucky than good.

I would rather have seen the 49ers against the Patriots, but since we squeaked in, I won't complain. I just don't think I can face the music with all my NY friends if the Patriots lose again to the Giants.

I'm feeling good about the Pats tomorrow, don;t know why cause I'm usually not so optimistic in these situations. I am not a betting man, but if I was, I'd be wagering large on the under (@ 54.5 points).

What a disappointment. The Patriots' receivers really let them down...if Welker catches that ball with less than 4 minutes left, the game is over...first down Pats at the 20 and the Giants have one time out. It's amazing how the media just loves all over Eli Manning and says how he outplayed Brady, yet, if Welker makes that catch (which he absolutely should), then Manning never gets that 40 yard completion, game winning drive and TD...and the Patriots are SB champs and Brady is the next king. One play changes everything.

I should have bet the farm on the under (54.5 points)...I knew it.
